Monthly Programme

As it is mentioned elsewhere, our Community’s primary goal is, according to the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain Constitution, “to preserve and propagate the Orthodox Christian Faith and traditions…”, as well as, “to minister to the people [of God] through canonical services conducted by canonical priests, and through sermons and through catechism and Greek language schools” (Constitution, article 1, paras 1 and 2)

Under the term “canonical service” there are included the seven sacraments of the Orthodox Church and its daily or extraordinarily offered services. Sacraments (eucharist, baptism, chrismation, confession, unction, matrimony, priesthood) and services (matins, vespers, supplications, etc) are the channels through which the Grace of God is administered to His People. Likewise thirsty people open a tap, so that water runs through and they fill their glasses to drink and satiate their thirstiness, even so spiritually thirsty people open the “tap” of the Church, so that spiritual “water” runs through to fill their own “glasses”, drink from it and water their spiritual bareness.

But the Church “tap” has got “spigots”, which let or let not the “water” run. The most important is the priest, the intermediary between God and the faithful. He is the one who, by God’s Grace and his bishop’s blessing, officiates sacraments and services so that God’s blessings and gifts fill up to the rim a virtual local Church “pool”. Then, the priest opens the “tap”, so that the faithful, who are gathered in God’s name in the church during the various services and sacraments, receive these blessings and gifts; either as Holy Communion from the Chalice, or as the Holy Spirit’s visitation into their lives as peace, happiness, goodness, meekness, temperance etc

This is why the participation of the faithful in the sacraments and the services taking place in their local church is indispensable (with the understandable exception of the sick, mothers of newly born babies, elderly etc, of course). It is the only way to satiate their spiritual thirst and bareness, and get prepared for the outmost life goal: eternal communion with God.

In abiding by the aforementioned Archdiocesan Constitution, it is with joy and zeal that our parish/community offers sacraments and services scheduled on a daily, weekly and annual basis. This way it supplies all of its members and visitors with the spiritual “water” to “hydrate” their lives and irrigate their paths towards eternity.
