Our school invites all pupils, parents and community members to join us for the celebration of the 25th March 1821/1st April 1955, in commemoration of the struggles of Greece and Cyprus for national independence and freedom. The event will take place on Sunday 24th March at the community hall after the divine liturgy and flag procession.
Our school pupils have worked hard and are delighted to present their poems, songs, and traditional dances to honour the great men and women who fought and lost their lives in these wars.
Hot food (kalamari with fries) and snacks will be available; all proceedings will go towards supporting the school. We welcome donations of cakes and raffle prizes.
All welcome!

Sunday 26th November 2023

Don't miss the opportunity to experience these remarkable films at the Cyprus Film Days Festival in Leeds! It's a unique opportunity to explore the world of Cypriot cinema and appreciate the artistry and storytelling talent showcased by these award-winning films.

Dates and Locations:

  • Leeds, EVERYMAN CINEMAS: November 26, 2023

Organizer: The Cyprus Film Days Festival is organized by the Cultural Department of the Cyprus High Commission in London.

Sponsor: The festival is sponsored by the Deputy Ministry of Culture in Cyprus.

Featured Film:

Title: "Senior Citizen" (2020)

Country: Cyprus

Duration: 84 minutes

Genre: Social Drama

Synopsis: "Theoharis," an elderly and lonely man, takes refuge every evening in the hospital, spending the night on the benches and chairs of the outpatients' wing. Every morning he returns to his house, where his only companion is his cat and his memories. One night he is discovered by a young nurse, Evgenia, who tries to learn more about him. Theoharis is initially skeptical and refuses to give her any information. Gradually, however, a relationship of trust between the two begins to build. "Senior Citizen" is a film that deals with loneliness, old age, and the marginalization, many times, of elderly people.

Awarded Short Films: The Cyprus Film Days Festival will also feature the three Awarded Short Films of the National Competition Programme at the ISFFC 2022:

1.   "Daphne" by Tonia Misiali

·Awards:

·      First Prize for the Best Cypriot Short Film

·      Dinos Katsourides' Prize for the Best Direction

·      Prize for the Best Performance (Niovi Charalambous)

·Synopsis: "Daphne" is a plain, frank, and touching character study film based on a woman whose journey to reclaim herself turns into a reflective and inspired depiction of our time. It's a story that delves into solitude and the complexity of the feminine experience.

2.   "Rev / Dream" by Nicolas Kasinos

·Awards:

·      Second Prize for the Best Cypriot Film (€2,500)

·Synopsis: "Rev / Dream" is an innermost delineation of life and stolen dreams. The director uses montage smartly to reverse our prejudices against a woman who carries her gloomy story on her shoulders, simultaneously representing a whole generation of women.

3.   "Exploitation" (Director: Marina Symeou)

·Award:

·      Prize for the Best Photography (Thomas Tsiftelis)

·Synopsis: "Exploitation" is praised for its beautiful depiction of heroines and landscapes, giving the feeling of a reframed "Thelma and Louise" film.
