In Remembrance of Alexandros Constantinou

March 11, 1940 - May 3, 2022

It is with much sadness we announce the death of Alex Constantinou on 3 May 2022, a much loved father, father in law and grandfather.

Alex was born on 11 March 1940 in Agios Ioannis , Nicosia, Cyprus. After having served in the Greek army he married Chariclia and moved to Leeds in the 1960’s where he set up the family home and had 2 children, Dinos and Xenia.

He worked as a waiter and chef in many restaurants and pubs before venturing out and starting up a number of successful catering businesses.

Alex was a true king amongst men, a kind soul with such a lovely heart and infectious personality. He loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed pottering around in his garden and many allotments. His DIY skills were formidable with no project too difficult – Alex liked a challenge and was always determined to finish what he had started.

A very sociable man, he loved entertaining family and friends and being around people.

Alex leaves behind his two children, Dinos and Xenia , daughter in law , Vanessa and three grandchildren: Zach , Zoe and Ava.

Alex passed away peacefully and will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend Alex's funeral service on May 25, 2022 at 10.30 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church , 57 Harehills Avenue, Chapeltown , Leeds , LS8 4EU followed by a private burial at Whinmoor Cemetery.

Funeral tea will be served in the Church Hall immediately following the service.

Family flowers only. Any monetary donations will be equally divided between the Greek Orthodox Church’s “Light A Candle Fund” and St Gemma’s Hospice.

In Remembrance of Dr Carol Hughes, PhD, JP

July 10, 1953 - April 7, 2022

We are deeply sorry to announce the great loss of our beloved Carol who tragically died suddenly.

Carol was an incredibly intelligent, thoughtful, principled and hardworking person who tirelessly went out of her way continuously to serve her communities, rarely asking for anything in return.

Carol’s parents Michael and Maria Patikis moved to the UK from Cyprus in the 1940s and Carol was educated in Leeds. Carol gained her PhD in Criminology from the University of Manchester in 2004 whilst bringing up three very (!) active children of whom she was immensely proud. Sian, is a hospital consultant in Durham, Gareth is senior registrar at a Birmingham hospital and Trystan is a Geologist and mining engineer working in Australia. Carol supported them through their many years of education and also ferried them in all weathers to their various extracurricular activities during their school years. Carol also took a keen interest in her grandchildren. She also served as a senior magistrate for many years up to her untimely passing. She has been an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Leeds her whole life and had not only made very valuable contributions here, but also to the wider diverse community of Leeds which she loved, including volunteering to help refugees learn English, working at her local council and her very active participation in the Labour party to name but a few.

Our Mum’s commitment to raising awareness of and helping marginalised people who often do not feel that they have a voice has been an inspiration to not only her family but many of those who had the great privilege to cross paths with her. The photograph to the right was taken whilst enjoying a well-earned rest in her family home in Cyprus where she often spent happy times. We miss and love her dearly.

The Hughes family.
